PhD position in computational systems biology (Marie Curie ITN)
Evolutionary Systems Biology Lab, Biological Research Centre, Szeged, Hungary
The Biological Research Centre in Szeged, a Centre of Excellence of the European Union, is
inviting applications for a PhD position in computational systems biology. The successful
candidate will participate in metabolic network modeling and model-driven analysis of highthroughput
experimental data. In particular, this position will address key biological questions
regarding the response of cellular networks to drug treatments and the metabolic underpinnings of
drug resistance. The ideal candidate is autonomous, has a background in bioinformatics or
computational biology, has excellent interpersonal skills and has a desire to engage in
collaborative research.
Benefits
The candidate will receive a full employment contract with competitive salary plus mobility,
travel and career development allowances. Fellowships for early stage researchers (ESR) are
fundable for up to three years according to the Marie Curie rules:

The successful candidate will enter a PhD program at the University of Szeged and will benefit
from high quality research and training, including secondments in partner laboratories.
Requirements
The candidate should have a Master degree in Biological Sciences, Computer Sciences or
Physical Sciences and a strong interest in bioinformatics / computational biology. Experience in
computer programming is required. Specific knowledge in systems biology, mathematical
modeling, data mining and statistics will be useful but is not required. The candidate should be
fluent in English.
